Dana & Kelly's Birthday Bash Pictures

Okay, here they are! Thanks for patiently waiting. More will be going up soon, but this is a start. I've resized them all to pretty small, so it won't take forever for the page to load. Enjoy!

Brrrr!!

And NOW, at 8:30 p.m., it is 13 degrees with a wind chill of -2ยบ. I stepped outside and felt like my face was about to fall off! As I write this, I'm thinking of my granddad. He used to sit around the house watching the weather channel (like I'm doing) and say things like, "I'd hate to be in Seattle without an umbrella today", or "It sure is hot in Phoenix." I miss that.

A Very Good Birthday

Today was a very good birthday. I'm 27, and suddenly feeling "old". Okay, I don't feel OLD, but 27 seems somehow different than all of the other birthdays. Maybe it's because I'm 27 and still in school. Yes, graduate school-- but it's still school. Maybe it is because I'm 27 and not having babies yet. Who knows. When I was growing up, on my birthday, my stepdad (without fail!) would always ask the question, "How does it feel to be 13? 14? 15?..." or whatever age I had just turned. My response to him was always, "Well, it feels pretty much the same as being 12, 13, 14, etc." However, 27 does not feel the same as 26. Despite feeling a little older today, it was still a very good day.

My friend Dana and I share the same birthday, so we decided to throw ourselves a huge birthday bash! We had a GREAT time-- it will definitely go down in the books as one of the best birthdays ever! The theme was "Party Like a Rockstar" and that's just what we did! We had food and drinks, blacklights and a fog machine. We had a "Main Stage" and a "Rookie Stage" set up, where people could have their very own "Battle of the Bands" on Guitar Hero 1 & 2 (www.guitarherogame.com). We had karaoke and birthday cupcakes. We had glow necklaces and bracelets and VIP passes. For party favors we gave away goody bags filled with a CD of rock tunes, Pop Rocks, Ring Pops, and electric guitar bubbles. We even went outside for a small fireworks display that Billy & Dana's husband Jason put together. We gave away prizes for the best rocker costume. Our friend Jeremiah won in the Male category and I actually won the Female category! I will definitely post pictures soon (probably Wednesday) so CHECK BACK SOON!

Now, this was indeed a terriffic birthday party. However, I thought back today to the truly the best birthday party I've ever had. It was my 23rd birthday party in Lubbock, TX at the skating rink. That is the day Billy and I got engaged. It's hard to believe that was 4 years ago. Now THAT was a great day!

I'm very tired. Check back tomorrow for pictures of Dana & Kelly's Birthday Bash 2007!

Best Time EVER!

I haven't had a chance to post since our trip to Indianapolis last week for the Mavs game. That game was probably one of the best experiences ever!

I really don't know exactly what has made me such a huge Dallas Mavericks fan over these past couple of years. The game is certainly exciting, and Dallas is my town. So I guess maybe that's it. I know that my loyalty to the team has definitely deepened over the past year, since we moved here to Kentucky. I was already a fan, but now that we live in the land of all-things-basketball, I have really gotten into the game, and especially this team.

I was not disappointed by my first experience at an NBA game. The Mavs won in overtime, and I saw Dirk post 43 points. It was VERY exciting. Plus, Billy really got into the game, too which definitely made the whole experience a lot more fun for the both of us. One of these days I will figure out how to post pictures on here... I wish I knew how to do that so I could show you a picture of me grinning from ear-to-ear, with the scoreboard behind me.

In other news, I've had a very busy week. mostly due to this class I am taking. Tomorrow (Friday) is the last day of the class, though I have a 20-page research paper due one week after class ends. Tomorrow morning I will turn in the last of our daily 2-page papers and I am thrilled. They have been quite a chore.

I started working out with a friend of mine last week. Today marked the completion of the first week. I am a little bit sore, but generally feeling pretty good. I appreciate having my friend there to hold me accountable to my workout. Somehow, when I workout by myself, I tend to want to "cheat" on the workout and take shortcuts where ever I can. I don't know what it is, but I've always struggled with that. With Lindsay there, there is no cheating! :)

Well, I'm tired. I'm trying to stay awake to see the end of the Mavs/Lakers game, but I'm not sure if I'll make it these last 4 minutes.

Blessings...
Kelly

Hello, again!

Well, friends. It has been a while. You know how it goes... Christmas hits, and life gets busy!

The Lawsons had a GREAT Christmas. We spent some time in Texas with our families, and we enjoyed that very much. We hit Texas on Christmas Eve and drove straight to East Texas to go to my Grandmother's house. It was our first Christmas without our Granddad, as he had passed away just 3 weeks earlier. It was a little lonely and it was very different. It was still a very nice holiday and we all loved being together. My brother & sister-in-law and niece were there, as well as my mom and stepdad and sister.

On Christmas morning we went to Pittsburg to see the Collins family, and as usual, a good time was had by all. We had a great little cabin to enjoy and all of our kids keep getting cuter and cuter. Later that day, we went to Garland to celebrate the Lawson family Christmas, which was also very fun.

The day after Christmas we had lunch at Benihana with the Hickman clan, to celebrate Bryan's graduation from college (woo hoo!), Billy's grandparents' 57th wedding anniversary (woo hoo!), and Holly's 13th birthday (Woo hoo!). The rest of our trip was spent visiting the rest of the family-- we went to Tyler one day and saw my grandparents one morning. We also got to spend a couple of nights with my dad and stepmom, which was very fun. That was actually the first time Billy & I as a couple had actually spent the night at their house, and it was great.

Now... here's what I've REALLY been doing to keep myself busy since Christmas. I've spent a lot of time playing the best game ever created: Guitar Hero II. You can check it out at www.guitarherogame.com if you'd like. We've formed a "band" with a few of our friends and have named ourselves "The Schrutes". You Office fans will appreciate that. We have a lot of fun.

This past Monday I began my J-term course, Christian Ministry in a Multicultural Society. I am enjoying it, though it is exhausting me. Here's what my day looks like: Class from 8:30 until 12:00 noon. Go to work until 4:30 and then workout from 5:00 to 6:00. Then do my reading for class until 11:00 or 12:00. Go to bed, wake up at 4:00 a.m. to write my 2-page paper (by the time I finish the reading, my brain is too tired to do the writing and do it well). Then go to class at 8:30 and start all over again. I've never done a J-term course before, and though it is intense, I think I would do it again. The entire semester is finished in 3 weeks. It's nice. Now I need to decide what to do my research paper on. Any suggestions?

Tonight is an exciting night for me. Billy is taking me to Indiana to see the Dallas Mavericks take on the Indiana Pacers. Go Mavs!! This is my first ever Dallas Mavericks game and I couldn't be more excited. Okay, I COULD be more excited-- if I were in Dallas watching them play-- but I'm still REALLY REALLY REALLY excited!

My birthday is coming up (the Mavs tix were my birthday gift), and my friend Dana & I are having a joint birthday party. I wish all of you could be there. You should check out the e-vite online so that you can know just what kind of fun we'll be having. Here is the link:

Well... I am in class, and break time is over, so I need to get going.

Blessings to you. I'll try to update more frequently from here on out. Now that I'm back in Kentucky and the holidays are over, it should be easier to do so.
